In fact, they've scored at least 40 points every game since October 5th. It's Willmar's first state championship appearance since 1973 and their first trip to the tournament since 1988. SMB is a pretty new consolidation of players from St. Paul Academy, Minnehaha Academy and Blake School. Both teams have highly-touted quarterbacks in Jalen Suggs (SMB) and Drey Dirksen (Willmar).

BOLD is led by Mr. Football finalist Luke Ryan, whose 14 interceptions are tied for the state record. The top two teams in Class 1A all season have cruised to a rematch of the 1998 Championship game. BOLD won their first two games by a combined score of 87-13, while Mahnomen/Waubun hasn't allowed a point the entire state tournament.

Rochester Lourdes comes into the game looking for their fourth championship in the last 10 seasons, winning most recently in 2016. Fairmont advances to the state championship after taming Perham's high-flying offense in the semi-finals, led by the balanced offense attack of QB Garrett Myren (24 pass touchdows, 13 rush touchdowns in 2018).
