Park Rapids Sweeps Detroit Lakes in Softball to Capture Another Mid-State Title

The Laker softball team traveled to Park Rapids on Thursday and were swept by the Panthers 10-0 in 5 innings and 9-4 in the second game. The Panthers were able to win the Mid-State Conference Title with the sweep. It is the fourth consecutive Mid-State title for Park Rapids.
In the first game the Lakers kept the game close, they were trailing 3-0 going into the 5th inning. Then the game was broken wide open with a grand slam homer by Senior Kylee Pachel. The Panthers also knocked in a home run by Katelyn Weaver off of reliever Mercedez Bellanger who entered the game in relief of Madilyn Kirchner. Kirchner suffered her first loss on the season as she went 4 1/3 innings with 8k’s allowing 7 runs 6 earned. Junior Pitcher Rylee Michaelson of Park Rapids pitched 5 innings picking up 6 k’s and surrendering just 2 hits. Michaelson retired 12 straight batters to finish the game securing the 10-0 win.
It was another close game in the second game until the 4th inning. The Lakers were trailing 1-0 , when the floodgates were opened by Park Rapids. The Panthers batted through the order, scoring 6 runs. Kirchner suffered the loss in game 2, dropping her overall record to 5-2. Bellanger entered the game in the 5th inning and gave up just 4 hits and 2 runs. The Lakers did have more production at the plate as they struck for 4 runs.
With the loss, the Lakers are now 8-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Park Rapids stays undefeated on the season. The Lakers will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Aitkin.
