The Detroit Lakes remained unbeaten in 2018 with a 41-19 homecoming victory over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday night.

Isaiah Thompson earned the KDLM/Quality Toyoya Player of the Game honors with 206 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Thompson now has 1,145 rushing yards this season.

Despite a huge 41-19 win and the mid-season milestone from Thompson, head coach Josh Omang says this team still has a lot to work on.

"I'm really proud of our kids tonight," coach Omang told Jim Peterick in his post-game interview on KDLM. "But we want to get better. Our kids want to get better. We're not satisfied. We're certainly satisfied with this win on homecoming. We had a great crowd here with this weather, which was awesome. But we're gonna keep working."

The cold and wet field conditions were less than ideal, with huge patches of mud forming at midfield shortly after warm ups, but it didn't affect the Lakers rushing attack.

Gabe Hanninen got the scoring for the Laker offense tonight, scoring a two yard touchdown to give the Lakers a 7-0 lead with 6:21 left in the first quarter.

The Lakers scored the first of three second quarter touchdowns when Reed Reller intercepted Aiden Leach and returned it 45 yards for a Lakers touchdown. The Rebels immediately responded on the first play of their next time, with Justin Wang scoring on an 80 yard touchdown.

Then, it was Thompson Time. On Detroit Lakes' first play from scrimmage, Isaiah Thompson scored a 75 yard touchdown. The two teams combined for three touchdowns in 27 seconds.

The Lakers were leading 21-7 when Max Gunderson threw a 25 yard touchdown to Sully Wood with 5:11 left in the quarter to give DL a 27-7 halftime lead.

Despite the terrible field conditions, the fans freezing and wet in the stands were treated to a halftime performance by the Lakers cheer team who did a great job despite the field being frozen, wet and tore up by the game.

Thompson scored another long touchdown run, this time from 54 yards, to extend the Lakers lead to 34-7. Aiden Leach threw the first of two second half touchdowns with 4:21 left in the third quarter, connecting with Carter Kohler on a 36 yard passing play.

Gunderson threw his second touchdown pass of the game on a quick route to Gabe Hanninen on a six yard connection to give the Lakers a 41-13 lead. The second-string defense almost held the DGF first team offense out of the offense with a minute left in the game before Leach connected with Nathan Leitner for a nine yard touchdown.

The Lakers won 41-19.

Quarterback Max Gunderson finished 4-9 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns. The rushing attack was dominant again for Detroit Lakes, totaling 318 yards on 43 carries between Thompson (16/206/2), Hanninen (7/21/1), Reed Mace (13/72), Colby Olson (2/10), Gunderson (2/5) and Jackson Rhodes (3/4).

Gunderson was 4/9 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Jake Bettcher hauled in a 31 yard reception, Sully Wood had a 24 yard touchdown catch, Reed Mace had an eight yard reception, and Gabe Hanninen scored the final touchdown for DL on a six yard passing play.

The Lakers were even in the take/give tonight. The defense intercepted Aiden Leach twice: Reed Reller had a 45 yard pick six, and Sullivan wood also intercepted Leach in the second quarter. Gunderson lost a fumble in the first half, and Isaiah Thompson lost a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half.

The Lakers defense allowed 228 yard of total offense (172 rushing, 56 passing).

Next up for the Lakers: East Grand Forks on the road next week. Pregame will be at 5:30 with the kickoff on your home for Laker sports, KDLM. East Grand Forks lost to Perham 30-7.
