DLPD Growing Beards for 'House of Shields'

You may notice some scruffy-looking police officers around the Lakes Area this November. Detroit Lakes Police Department officers are usually clean-shaven, per department policy. But, this month, the DLPD, along with the Becker County Sheriff's Office, Lake Park PD, Audubon PD, Frazee PD and Callaway PD are all participating in 'No-Shave November"...for a fee.
Officers can grow their beards out this month for a $40 donation to House of Shields, an organization put on by the Rochester Police Department. House of Shields is a volunteer-run program that offers free housing to law enforcement (current or retired) and their immediate family to stay in Rochester for free while utilizing the Mayo Clinic. The organization is run by volunteers and funded by donations. The apartment complex is only six blocks from Mayo.
House of Shields began in 2008 and has provided free lodging to an estimated 1,000 law enforcement officers and their families. It became a 501c3 charity in 2016.
If you would like to join local law enforcement in raising money for House of Shields, you can drop off your donation to the Detroit Lakes Police Department or donate online at HouseOfShields.org.
