(Duluth, MN)--Students at Esko High School are receiving grief support after one of their football players collapsed on the field and later died. Jackson Pfister collapsed Friday night at Veterans Field in Aitkin. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and died shortly afterward. Pfister was a late substitution at quarterback and fell to the ground during a play before getting up, walking over to the sideline, and collapsing. No preliminary cause of death has been given, but family members say the teen had a congenital heart defect and had undergone surgery several years ago. Pfister’s visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. A memorial mass will be at 4 p.m.
