FARGO, ND--111 residents of a South Fargo nursing home had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in the building Thursday afternoon. Firefighters from Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo were called to Elim Rehab and Care Center around 3:00pm Thursday. The fire started in an attic area and burned through the roof. Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says those displaced residents were temporarily placed at various facilities in the FM area. He says Fargo-Cass Public Health coordinated with the North Dakota State Department of Health and Elim to find beds to meet the needs of the residents. He says the investigation into the cause moves into high gear this (Friday) morning.
Dirksen says the full extent of damage to the nursing home won't be known until investigators get a closer look. He says the main area where the fire started was over office areas, but there was also heavy smoke damage throughout the building.
