DETROIT LAKES, MN--Mapping out the best options for all types of trails in Becker County continues moving forward. At the most recent meeting with the consultant (SRF) working on the Becker County Master Trail, those in attendance were updated on the latest three concept options based on feedback from the first planning session earlier this summer. SRF's Joni Geise is the main planner working with the county to gather information over several months about trails of all kinds, biking, walking, hiking, equine, ATV, snowmobile--what there is currently and what the various groups want--and develop a master plan for the county to use for development and also to go after trail grants, among other things. She says the planning must also consider a more regional approach to connecting the Heartland Trail from Park Rapids to Moorhead. Clay County is beginning to work on a Heartland Route to Hawley from Detroit Lakes and Becker County And Detroit Lakes are working on a connection east to Park Rapids.
Geise says the timeline for the development of the Master Trails Plan for Becker County is to narrowed down the three options presented at last week's meeting into one by late October or early November and have a master trails plan proposal in front of the Becker County Board of Commissioners for approval by the end of the year.
