(Crosby, MN) -- A former Crosby mayor is suing the city for defamation. The former police chief and a former lieutenant are also named in the suit. James Hunter claims the former officials defamed him by falsely accusing him of several crimes. Hunter's attorney says the complaint seeks to hold the former chief and lieutenant accountable for what he describes as systematic harassment of Hunter. Hunter was accused of swindling a man who bought one of his businesses, assault, and operating a vehicle finance company without a license. Hunter resigned as mayor in March 2017 after being arrested on a list of charges.
