DETROIT LAKES, MN--Along with it's official ski-season opening today with "White Friday", Detroit Mountain Recreation Area this weekend kicks off the inaugural "Gift of Giving" campaign. Beginning this Saturday and throughout December Detroit Mountain along with Leighton Broadcasting will feature local non-profits and help give back to the great work they do in our communities. Brian Faris From Detroit Mountain Recreation Area (DMRA) says they wanted to find some way to spread holiday cheer and to give back to the community and its great organizations, so each weekend through December they will designate donations to a specific local organization and offer discounts on tubing to individuals who donate.
Donations each day--non-perishable food on Saturday and animal shelter donations Sunday--will be collected at Detroit Mountain's Landslide Tubing Park and each person who brings a donation for the specific day receives two hours of tubing for $10.
The second weekend of the Gift of Giving campaign will feature: "Play Your Part Toy Drive" on December 7th for the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes and "Warm Our Hearts Winter Clothes Drive" on December 8th for Lakes Crisis and Resource Center.
