COTTON LAKE (KDLM) - A canine is being credited with tracking down two burglars near Cotton Lake recently.
On September 4 the Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary on Co. Hwy. 26, near Buffalo Lake. One suspect was taken into custody and another was still at large. Deputy Bouchie along with his K9 partner Cooper were called to assist in locating the suspect. After Deputy Bouchie and K9 Cooper arrived at the residence, K9 warnings were announced and the search for the suspect began.
A Sheriff’s sergeant saw a suspicious vehicle with a passenger believed to be the suspect leaving the area. An assisting White Earth Tribal Officer attempted to stop the vehicle to identify the passenger. The driver of the vehicle did not stop for the officer and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued for approximately 15 miles ending on the east side of Cotton Lake off Co. Hwy. 29.
The driver and passenger then both fled on foot. After a perimeter was set, Deputy Bouchie and K9 Cooper arrived on scene and began tracking the suspects. Deputy Bouchie and K9 Cooper tracked through a wooded area near the Cotton Lake access. K9 Cooper located the female passenger who was taken into custody without incident. A second track was started for the driver. A short time later, K9 Cooper, located the driver. He too was taken into custody.
