Let the Party Begin!: Polar Fest Opens

DETROIT LAKES, MN--Hundreds gathered beach-side in Detroit Lakes Thursday on a perfect winter night to open Polar Fest events with the lighting of this year's Ice Throne and to celebrate.
Polar Fest events continue today with Daddy's Little Sweetheart Dance, Welcome to Polaritaville and Live music at the Detroit Mountain. Saturday's big events include the Poles 'n Holes fishing derby and the Great Polar Race and Fandazzi Fire Circus. The Polar Fest Schedule and event details can be found at www.polarfestdl.com
The surprise guest switch-flipper was Detroit Lakes Public Works Director Brad Greenwho's retiring today (Feb. 7th) after thirteen years with the city. Prior to that, Green worked for about 17 years as the operations director for Detroit Lakes Public Schools.
"What a wonderful thing...to have a long career in public service...his is my real party...when you can dance in the streets and light the castle, that's pretty special," Green said. "We'll (he and his wife Janet) will still be around Detroit Lakes enjoying the community."

Today, the city hosts Brad Green's Retirement Party from 1pm-3pm in the Council Chambers with a program at 1:30pm.
