Laker Sports Brief 1-14-2019

The Laker wrestling team took 2nd place in the Rick Lee Tournament, in Bemidji. The Lakers ran their duel record to 11-1 on the season. Next up for the Lakers they will have a duel meet with Perham on Thursday.

The Laker gymnastics team traveled to Lakeville on Saturday, and defended their invite title by finishing with the top score of 148.3. The Lakers competed against some of the Top AA schools at the invite. Next up for Laker gymnastics they will be in Perham for a meet on Saturday.
The Detroit Lakes boys’ basketball team defeated Aitkin 65-43 on the road last Friday. With the win the Lakers stay undefeated in Mid-State Conference and are now .500 on the season as they evened their overall record at 5-5. Senior Jacob Bettcher scored a game-high 26 points in the win. Next up for the Lakers they will travel to Thief River Falls on Tuesday night. The Prowlers are 3-7 on the year.
The Detroit Lakes girls’ hockey team have dropped 4 straight after a loss on Saturday to Fergus Falls 6-1. With the loss the Lakers have fallen to 4-12 on the season. Karrigan Hallisey scored the lone goal in the loss. Next up for the Lakers they will travel to Alexandria on Tuesday. The Cardinals are 9-11 on the year.
The Laker Dance team competed in an invite on Saturday at Hawley High School. The Laker varsity team swept the floor placing 1st in both kick and jazz along with jv placing 3rd in both kick and jazz. Next up the Lakers will travel to Pine River to take part in the Conference Tournament at 7pm.
Boys Swimming and Diving
The Laker Boys Swim and dive team took part in the Lumberjack Invite, in Bemidji, on Friday. The Lakers finished in 5th place out of 7 teams. Next up for the Lakers they will travel to take part in a dual meet in Park Rapids on Tuesday.
The Laker boys’ hockey team traveled to East Grand Forks on Saturday. The Lakers fell to the top team in the Section 8A standings 5-0. The Lakers and Green Wave were scoreless after the first period, but East Grand Forks scored 4 goals in the 2nd period, and that was the difference, in the game. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 10-2-1, on the year. Next up, the Lakers will have a big game tomorrow, against another Section 8A opponent, as they will host the Crookston Pirates, at 7:30pm.
