(KNSI) - With the New Year quickly approaching, it's time to set your New Years Resolution.
Jodi Gertken is the Community Wellness Program Director for CentraCare and has tips on how to achieve your resolution.
"Start small. Start achievable," said Gertken on KNSI's Your Health Program.
She suggests asking yourself, are the goals I'm setting achievable? Are they realistic?
"People do come up with an aggressive list and, almost, set themselves up to fail right out of the chute."
The next step in achieving your New Years' goal is to write it down.
"You don't have to go out and shout it from the rooftops, you don't have to put it all over Facebook, but you can write it down to hold yourself accountable."
Gertken also suggests using a friend or spouse to help hold yourself accountable by working together to complete your resolutions.
"You can set up your own rewards system to help encourage you and incentivize you... If I do this, then I can do that."
She uses the example of going for a run and rewarding yourself with a pedicure.
Lastly, Gertken encourages folks to continue aiming for their goals year-round.
"Doesn't have to be a January thing. Do it in June. Do it in September. Do it whenever it makes sense for you."
