Man Rescued from Becker County Lake Sunday

DETROIT LAKES, MN--A Sauk Rapids man was rescued from a Becker County lake Sunday morning. According to the Becker County Sheriff's Office, just after 11:15 am Sunday the report of a possible drowning on Island Lake was received. Witnesses had observed a boat circling and someone in the water trying to grab onto the boat. Rescuers responded to help a male unresponsive in the water. The victim was pulled from the water and rescuers began CPR. Emergency personnel arrived at the lake located 18 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes and continued rescue efforts until the victim was transported by air ambulance to Essentia Hospital, Fargo. The victim was identified as 61 year old Lyle Keith Nelson, of Sauk Rapids, MN. The incident remains under investigation, and the condition of the victim is unknown at this time. The Becker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Carsonville Fire and Rescue, MN DNR, US Fish and Wildlife Service, St. Mary’s EMS, Becker County Boat and Water Division, and Lifelink Aircare.
