DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - There have been minimal issues with mask enforcement in Detroit Lakes according to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd.
The state-wide mask mandate went into effect, Saturday, July 25. According to the Executive Order, violating the mandate is a petty misdemeanor and carries a $100 fine for individuals, and up to a $1,000 fine or 90 days in jail for businesses.
In a letter to Mayor Matt Brenk, Todd indicated that he could only find one mask related incident in the City's record management system. During an interview with KDLM in mid-July, Todd said he didn't plan enforcing the state-wide mask mandate unless absolutely necessary. For instance if a business were to ask a customer to use a mask and they refused, the Police Department would handle the complaint as a trespassing issue if the guest refused to leave.
