DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - Polls are open today for Minnesota's primary election which will determines which candidates will be on the ballot in the November general election.
Terry Kalil with the League of Women Voters says, "The primary is not to be confused with the Presidential primary that was held back in March, this time voters are being asked to choose the candidates for the General Election for 1 U.S. Senate seat, currently held by Tina Smith and 1 U.S. House seat currently held by Collin Peterson."
Polls will close at 8pm tonight, however ballots have been pouring in recently with a higher number of absentee voting due to COVID-19. Mike Brethorst, Becker County Administrator says they've had to hire additional help, "We brought some surge support in to help us with the increased number of absentee ballots we're getting, the numbers are looking strong with the mailbag full of ballots we get on a daily basis."
Results should be available tonight on the Minnesota Secretary of State website and the county canvassing board will certify the results on Friday.
A list of polling locations can be found at the Becker County website or online at MNVotes.org
