Beginning July 1st, Otter Tail County is switching their countywide emergency notification system from Code Red to Smart 911. This means if you are currently subscribed to Code Red you will also need to sign up for Smart 911.
Otter Tail County Emergency Management Director Patrick Waletzko said of the new system,
“We think that our shift to smart911 is going to provide us with all the services that we have had under code red, but also add in some functionality that we can integrate into our 911 services so kind of expand broadly public safety services that the county provides”
Smart 911 will provide location based alerting for severe weather and local emergencies like a missing child, road closures, evacuation notices, and other health & safety hazards for all communities.
Community members and visitors can also voluntarily create a Safety Profile for their household or business – featuring location & occupant/resident information, medical conditions, and vehicle & pet information you would like responders to have in the event of an emergency.
With a Safety Profile, calling 9-1-1 now provides greater detail to the dispatcher, allowing them to send help faster and more efficiently.
