FERGUS FALLS, MN--Formal charges have been filed against a Pelican Rapids man accused in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a rural Fergus Falls woman.
Thirty-nine-year-old Anthony Dale Randklev is charged three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, false imprisonment, and fleeing. All are felonies.
Randklev is accused of climbing in a basement window of the woman’s home and kidnapping her at gunpoint, threatening her four children if she didn’t cooperate. He allegedly took the victim to an abandoned farmstead just outside Maplewood State Park and sexually assaulted her.
Law enforcement received a report that a silver pickup had left the farmstead and soon after, was spotted at Southtown gas station in Pelican Rapids. When authorities closed in on the vehicle, it took off southbound on Highway 59 at speeds of over 90 mph.
Three pit maneuvers and stop sticks eventually shredded a tire and the pickup was stopped in a wheat field outside Erhard and shots were fired, with no one injured. Randklev was arrested, while the victim was taken into protective custody and transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for a forensic exam.
A court complaint states Randklev talked about how people in his life had wronged him and how people had killed his son. He told the victim he had to keep his bloodline going and that’s why he needed to assault her.
Randklev has a violent history. He has convictions in Otter Tail and Grant Counties for kidnapping, sexual assault, fleeing, felon in possession of a firearm, and failure to register as a predatory offender.
Randklev was recently considered a level three predatory offender. He makes his first appearance on the charges today in Otter Tail County District Court.
