Underwood Principal To Receive Prestigious State Award

UNDATED--An area high school principal is to be honored at the end of the month with a prestigious state award for the positive impact he's made on education throughout his career.
Underwood High School principal John Hamann will receive the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals Distinguished Service to Education Award. The award honors individuals who have committed themselves to the service of education in the State of Minnesota. The award may or may not be given annually, but nominations are submitted to the MASSP Board of Directors for review and voted on by the Board of Directors. The award is a very prestigious award given to individuals who have made a positive impact on education across the state in a variety of leadership roles. The individual does not have to be an educator, but rather a leader who has embarked on making positive change in support of all stakeholders in education.
Hamann has been with the Underwood School District for 23 years serving as PreK-12 principal, E-rate coordinator, Staff Development Chair, STAR Committee, Activities Director, and Intervention Coordinator. From 1989 to 1997 he was principal in Wyndmere at the junior and senior high school, served as athletic director, computer instructor, junior high football coach, and community ed computer class instructor. Prior to that he worked at NDSU as a graduate assistant in Education, elementary/special education student adviser, student Teacher supervisor, organized and taught student teacher seminar, Evaluated student micro-teaching lessons, research.
Among over a dozen other accolades, Hamann was the Athletic Director of the Year, District 1, Region 1 in 1992, 1995 and 1996; President of MSHSL Board of Directors from 2010-2014. And has served on and chaired various state associations and committees.
John Hamann will be presented the Distinguished Service of Education Award at the MASSP Winter Conference at the Minneapolis Marriott on Thursday, January 30th, 2020 at the Noon luncheon. Mr. Hamann will be recognized for his service to education by Executive Director Dave Adney, MASSP President Mark Mischke, Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
